What I Did on My Summer Vacation

When students return to school after summer break, often one of the first questions asked by their teacher is, “What did you do on your summer vacation?” This time, instead of asking our students, we thought we’d turn the tables on our teachers and ask them, “What did you do on your summer vacation?” Here is what they said:

 

Saw the last Grateful Dead show ever!! – Mr. Basden, MS Social Studies

I enjoyed vacationing with family, biking and reading – Mrs. Saliba, Kindergarten

I prepared for a job at my dream school! – Ms. Wilson, MS Science

I traveled to Savannah and Tybee Island to visit my sister and enjoyed spending time with my new little one, Wyatt. – Mrs. Teffeteller, MS Science

I learned to fly fish on the Snake River in Idaho. – Mr. Jones, MS Social Studies

This summer I enjoyed catching up on sleep and reading. I also vacationed with my family to a mountain cabin in Virginia and later to The Big Apple, New York City. – Mrs. Clark – LS Librarian

I travelled with my family. National Parks and historical sites are some of my favorite destinations. – Andrew Parham, MS Band

My summer was full of books, swim meets and ice cream – lots of fun and yum! – Mrs. Pensky, MS Literature

Reading, painting, cleaning, hiking and enjoying family – Mrs. Calhoun, LS Art

This summer my family went to Ocracoke Island, where my youngest daughter works. We had a blast at the beach. My stepson and I took a trip to Washington, D.C. to get our soccer fix and watch Barcelona play Chelsea. – Mr. Bishop, 1st Grade

I spent my summer with my friends and family. I also enjoyed getting my classroom ready for my next group of “Little Saints.” – Ms. Riley, JK4

I watched a lot of baseball! Enjoyed time at the beach with my family. – Mrs. Noland, Kindergarten

I spent a great deal of time preparing for my classes this year. I was able to see my nephew from Cincinnati play music at a local marina twice this summer! – Mrs. McIntosh, MS Social Studies/Literature

We had a Harry Potter Summer, first at Universal’s Diagon Alley and then outside London at Warner Brothers Studio. We learned that Daniel Radcliffe broke over 80 wands in the filming of the Harry Potter movies. – Mrs. O’Donnell, MS Language Arts

Composed “Lakesong 5,” a banjo solo, while sitting on my balcony watching the sunset. – Mr. Wing, MS String Band

I had a wonderful summer! I traveled here and there, read books, dug my toes in the sand, and enjoyed arguably the best barbeque in Kansas City. – Mr. Spates, 5th Grade

I worked on getting a nursery ready for our future ESK Saints, Hadlee Etta Jenkins! She will be here in October and can’t wait to put on her purple and white! – Mrs. Jenkins, 3rd Grade

I was on the road a lot. I went to Kiawah and Litchfield Beach with friends, Jamaica with my family, Smith Mountain Lake with friends and twice to Lynchburg, Virginia to visit family and friends. – Mrs. Tyler, 2nd Grade

The Bornemann family enjoyed a week in Sea Island, Georgia, and a month of camping on Watts Bar Lake. – Mrs. Bornemann, 4th Grade

I tutored at ESK, rested and visited some friends at Virginia Beach. – Mrs. Parham, 3rd Grade

I read, gardened and slept past 6 a.m. I went to two conferences to learn more about the latest trends and research in education. I held my grandson for many sweet hours. – Mrs. Laurence, LS Director

This summer, my wife, Hillary, and I welcomed our second child, Gwynn Marjorie. We’ve had a summer staycation focused on our family. – Mr. Hoffman, MS Art

I completed 12 graduate hours in Curriculum & Instruction this summer and took a 1-week vacation to my favorite place: Spain. – Mrs. Sharpe, MS Spanish

I got to spend time with my extended family at Kiawah Island. Each night I went on an alligator hunt. I saw so many. – Mrs. Ottaviano, 1st Grade

This summer I had 2 new grandsons born! My son’s family had a baby boy named Beckett, and my oldest daughter’s family had a baby boy Sutton. It was a joyful summer. – Dr. Sousa, Director of Music

I checked off a lot on my bucket list. I saw the Rolling Stones, James Taylor, Sam Smith and others. I saw a Red Rocks concert, visited The Sand Dunes and hiked a 14er. I did a lot of hiking, made my 16th ascent to LeConte and welcomed my new granddaughter, Ava June. – Mrs. Hoover, 4th Grade
