ESK Welcomes Grandparents’ and Special Friends to Campus

On the morning of Friday, November 4, ESK hosted nearly 425 grandparents and special friends on campus for its annual Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day. What a great day! Guests enjoyed coffee and pastries from Flik Dining, special Chapel services, Middle School academic/fine art showcases and Lower School classroom visits. Each lower school student had the opportunity to share their classroom with their guests and show they a glimpse of what the day of an ESK student is like. Many classes prepared special projects for the guests, including kindergarten students who wrote and illustrated special pictures showing something special their grandparent does for them.

In the middle school, each grade level took the chance to highlight something specific to that grade. For fifth grade, that meant sharing about the elective offerings that middle school students get to choose from. Sixth graders presented their ancient Mesopotamian artifacts, which they created for a class assignment. Students were given the opportunity to recreate an artifact of their choice from any of the five ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia: Sumerian, Akkadian, Babylonian, Assyrian and Neo-Babylonian. Students were tasked with researching their specific artifact, studying the use and function as well as the historical and cultural effects of the particular item. In seventh grade, students participate in the Model United Nations project. Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day provided those students with the opportunity to share the resolutions from each of their respective countries. Finally, eighth graders shared about their Portfolio Projects, which they are currently working on. Portfolio is a capstone project completed by each eighth grade student on a topic of their choosing. The project has three components including a research paper, the creation of an artifact and a community service project.

We appreciate our grandparents and special friends, and we thank you for attending!
