New teachers we love: Tiffany Hernandez

¡Bienvenida a la escuela Episcopal, Maestra Hernandez!  We are thrilled to have you teach middle school Spanish during the 2018-2019 school year. Your language expertise and love for kids will foster a flourishing Spanish program and add to our outstanding world language programs at ESK. Thank you for telling us a little more about you!

Q&A with Tiffany Hernandez – ESK’s new middle school Spanish teacher

What is your favorite summer memory?

Ms. Hernandez: My best summers were spent right here in East Tennessee. My brothers and I would spend the two months with my grandparents camping out in the Cherokee National Forest. We explored, fished, swam in the river, ate s’mores nearly everyday…it was a kids’ paradise!

You’ll love our 96-acre campus for exploring with students, then. And Doe River Gorge Camp with middle schoolers is almost exactly like what you described – s’mores and a campfire every night! Who was your favorite teacher?

Ms. Hernandez: It’s hard to choose a favorite teacher. Sophomore year was a turning point for me, and I had an entire team of teachers that poured wisdom, knowledge and love into me. Mrs. Turner was my English teacher and her strength was creating lasting relationships with us. Our class was a family. We often positioned our desks in circles and participated in Socratic seminars that were beyond imagination. She opened the entire class to a new world of imagination and creativity. It was that year that I knew for sure I would definitely become a teacher!

Teachers that inspire us to pursue specific careers are special. I know the ESK faculty strives to be examples that leave lasting positive impressions on kids. Do you have a favorite book?

Ms. Hernandez: My favorite author is Nicholas Sparks. There are very few of his that I do not love! But I read anything and

everything. Reading is my go-to comfort.

You’re joining a community in which many also identify as bookworms! What are you most looking forward to about teaching at ESK?

Ms. Hernandez: I am looking forward to the family I am going to acquire! I have heard so much good about ESK and I am ready to soak it all in!

We hope you love working at Episcopal School of Knoxville! You’ll find our students and staff value learning about new cultures and perspectives. Teaching world language is a privilege here. Everyday presents a new opportunity to grow as an educator, leader, and mentor! ¡Bienvenida!
