Teachers we love: Caroline Wood

Welcome to ESK, Caroline Wood!  Next school year Caroline will serve in JK3 as the assistant.  Since she’s been a camp counselor, we know she has the energy to keep up with our littlest Saints. As a veteran of Grace Point, the East Tennessee Episcopal summer camp, we know she’ll be familiar with our rich Episcopal tradition, too.

Q&A with Caroline Wood

What is your favorite summer memory?

Ms. Wood: I have so many great memories of the summer, but the one that comes to mind is from the last night of intermediate summer session at Grace Point Camp. We were celebrating Eucharist at the Pavilion and a storm was rolling in. The service was beautiful because the lightning was illuminating the distant sky, and we could all feel God’s presence.

Caroline loves the outdoors, gardening, and is passionate about Episcopal faith.

ESK’s new JK3 assistant!

I love the stunning natural backdrop at Grace Point, too. My favorite activity at Grace Point is roasting marshmallows around the fire pit after a day of service at Girls, Inc., ESK’s community service partner. Who was your favorite teacher?

Ms. Wood:  One of my favorite teachers is Dr. Wenzel who taught communication at Eckerd College. Her classes were so fun because she can brighten up the room with a smile. She has the best laugh and so much grace. She made learning and speaking in front of people fun.

I would love to meet a communications teacher who can make public speaking enjoyable! Do you have a favorite movie?

Ms. Wood: My favorite movie is How to Train Your Dragon because Toothless reminds me of my cat, Tigger! I also always wanted a pet dragon when I was younger, so the movie brought that dream to life. I am so excited to see How to Train Your Dragon 3 when it comes out!

What are you most looking forward to about teaching at ESK?

Ms. Wood: There are too many things I am excited about as I prepare to serve students at ESK. To start, I am excited to be a part of a community that is teaching everyone that he or she is a child of God and is known and loved. It is important to have a community where we all know how important we are to each other and to God. Secondly, I am excited about the garden and chickens! How fun to learn where our food comes from in the school’s backyard! I love watching how plants grow and produce fruits and vegetables.

We hope you love working at Episcopal School of Knoxville! Your love for God, enthusiasm for kids, and excitement about the garden will add to our unique and welcoming culture here at ESK.
